I had no idea about clickbait and why people write crap like this to get people to go to their ads. Good read.

It mentions 14 companies yet Deoleo seem to be the only one doing anything about it.

Good on you for stepping up. Good luck!

Robin, these are competitors playing dirty tricks. The one that plays it really dirty is Pompeian. They sell all kinds of blends with 85% of canoa oil and 15% of olive oil. However, they put a huge label in the front of the bottle saying “OLIVE EXTRA”. They get the consumers confused, they offer the lowest prices (make no mistake, they are cheap for an obvious reason), they are the ones with the highest market share, and they attack the rest of competitors with dirty tricks like this one. They should be sued and we must spread the word.

Making money from ads or more like a competitor playing dirty tricks?

Whilst they sprout their commitment to eliminating Fake news — they really don’t seem to have any control, having allowed the fake olive oil news to continuously circulate.

You are totally right, Lara. The olive oil industry is being damaged by the goals pursued by brands like Pompeian. It is totally unacceptable to have a brand that boasts about the USDA quality monitoring seal, while its parent companies (the Spanish Dcoop and the Moroccan Devico) ara being fined at their home countries by importing low quality olive oil from Africa and mixing it with Spanish olive oil. It is important to underline that the European legislation allows to do that if and only if the resulting olive oil is sold in other countries. Since Dcoop sells the olive oil to Pompeian, guess who are buying that bullshit… Pompeian should be sued.

It shines a light on an industry that needs to work together, in the end it damages the wider category.

Congratulations to Deoleo for taking a leadership position here, and looking behind all the click bait articles to give us the facts. Keep up the good work.

Gavin, that is precisely what they tell you in that website. It also seems that they will launch a large advertising campaign to make this point clear.

That’s what Pompeian always tells the media. Check out their press releases! You can sue them if you don’t agree…

Pompeian is the first brand to carry the USDA Quality Monitored seal on its extra virgin olive oil and works with numerous third parties, including the North American Olive Oil Association, to ensure the quality of its products. Pompeian is NOT the largest olive oil brand. Transparency is important and so are facts.

I’m glad that Deoleo and its brands provide relevant information and strive to provide information to consumers. That’s the way to go! Demanding quality standards must be created in the US to ensure that no producers take advantage of high prices to sell low quality olive oil. In my opinion, producers must step forward and be transparent, proving that they are committed to high standards and that these are enforced. In that respect, it is interesting to point out that ‘The Olive Oil Times’ recently underlined the fact that Pompeian, the largest American oilve oil brand, and its parent companies could possibly be playing dirty by importing cheap and low quality olive oil to Spain, and exporting the resulting blend as original Spanish olive oil. The US Department of Agriculture should launch an inquiry ASAP.
