Fruit salad does not have to be boring or too sweet. Using a few seasonal fresh fruits enhanced with robust extra virgin olive oil is a treat on its own When herbs and spices are added into the mix, you have an elevated, elegant fruit salad perfect for serving at your next summer gathering.

Cantaloupe and blueberries are currently in season and are abundant at farmer’s markets, but you can use any fruits that are in season at the time. The dressing of EVOO, basil, cayenne, and lemon juice is the perfect balance for all of that fresh fruit.

Lovely on its own, but it is best served with some Greek yogurt swirled with some natural honey. This updated fruit salad is balanced, modern, and elevated.

Fruit salad is updated with a spicy, herby, robust extra virgin olive oil dressing and served with a creamy, sweet Greek yogurt swirled with your favorite honey. Perfect for your next posh gathering!

Ingredients

  • 1/2whole cantaloupe, cubed

  • 1cupfresh blueberries

  • 1/4cuprobust extra virgin olive oil

  • 1large bunchbasil, lightly chopped

  • 1/2teaspooncayenne pepper

  • 1/2lemon, juiced

  • 1cupGreek yogurt

  • 1tablespoonhoney

Directions

  • To a large mixing bowl, add cantaloupe, olive oil, basil, blueberries, and cayenne. Mix together well.
  • Add lemon juice and mix once more. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, add Greek yogurt. Add honey on top of the yogurt and swirl 4 – 5 times with a spoon. No more, no less, otherwise the honey will simply mix in, which is okay too. The swirled yogurt gives an elegant touch.
  • Place your Melon Salad on a plate. Top with a dollop of your swirled Greek yogurt. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using a robust EVOO will give the most flavor to this salad. Be sure to use the best quality olive oil you can find. It will make a difference.
