Registration has opened for the 2020 edition of the NYIOOOC World Olive Oil Competition, the world’s largest and most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Producers, importers and distributors can enter their extra virgin olive oil brands on Producer Tools, the web application developed by the NYIOOC.
Now in its eighth year, the event is expected to draw up to 1,000 entries from at least two dozen countries.
The brands that are awarded at the NYIOOC join an elite list on the Official Guide to the World’s Best Olive Oils, the popular website where each year millions of visitors explore oils of the highest quality.
The Index now features a retail locator, which helps people find award-winning olive oils in nearby shops. Organizers said the new retail app, officially launched this week, is the next step in the ultimate mission of the NYIOOC, which is to help get high-quality olive oils into the kitchens where they deserve to be.
Winners of the 2019 NYIOOC and retail merchants who offer the winning oils can log in to the app to identify retail points where the best olive oils can be found.
Many of the oils are available to buy online via the Best Olive Oils Marketplace, the e‑commerce platform developed by NYIOOC where award-winners are sold directly by their producers and merchants who stock them.
Curtis Cord, the founder and president of the NYIOOC and the publisher of Olive Oil Times said this year’s event will be unlike any before, but added it was too early to share details. “We’re examining every aspect of the event and thinking out of the box,” he said. “We will be introducing major innovations that will add even more value and commercial success for these producers who so deserve to be recognized.”
The 2020 NYIOOC will be held next May.
