Olive oil proÂducÂtion in Spain has increased sigÂnifÂiÂcantly in January, with a total of 1,417,400 tons proÂduced, repÂreÂsentÂing a 33 perÂcent increase from the preÂviÂous camÂpaign. Sales have also increased, reachÂing 139,700 tons in January, with the total volÂume sold at 488,200 tons, due to risÂing domesÂtic marÂket demand and exports.
Olive oil proÂducÂtion in Spain has increased sigÂnifÂiÂcantly comÂpared with forÂmer camÂpaigns, accordÂing to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, with a total of 1,417,400 tons of oil proÂduced in the month of January.
The total amount of olive oil proÂduced repÂreÂsents a 33 perÂcent increase with respect to the preÂviÂous camÂpaign and a 36 perÂcent averÂage increase in the last four weeks.
According to data released on January 31, the total volÂume of olives milled was recorded at 7,467,273 tons, with an averÂage outÂput of 18.98 perÂcent, placÂing it slightly more than a point below other figÂures from the same dates of preÂviÂous camÂpaigns. According to the data, the 2018/19 camÂpaign surÂpasses those of the past by one-third.

That quanÂtity has allowed the curÂrent camÂpaign to reach maxÂiÂmum levÂels, eleÂvatÂing the total volÂume that has been sold to 488,200 tons. This is due to the the increase in demand of the domesÂtic marÂket, as well as increasÂing exports.
The proÂviÂsional data for imports, recorded in the month of January, are estiÂmated at 63,400 tons. There has been a 12 perÂcent increase of exports in comÂparÂiÂson to the preÂviÂous camÂpaign, with the interim data from January estiÂmated at 307,100 tons. This also repÂreÂsents a nine perÂcent increase in relaÂtion to the preÂviÂous four camÂpaigns.
Sales in the domesÂtic marÂket have increased by seven perÂcent comÂpared to the preÂviÂous camÂpaign and two perÂcent comÂpared to the preÂcedÂing four camÂpaigns.
Meanwhile, the total leadÂing stocks of mills and botÂtling plants in the world’s largest proÂducer of olive oil has increased to 1,368,200 tons, which is the maxÂiÂmum quanÂtity recorded for this month in comÂparÂiÂson to the same month in preÂviÂous camÂpaigns.
The price of olive oil in Spain conÂtinÂues to decrease as well, and there has been a 30 perÂcent averÂage decrease in mid-February, in comÂparÂiÂson to the same period of the preÂviÂous year.
The averÂage price for olive oil in Spain is around €2.38 ($2.68) per liter, in conÂtrast to the €3.70 ($4.59) price that was recorded in February 2018. Refined pomace olive oil had the biggest price decrease, a total drop of 42 perÂcent, with the curÂrent price standÂing at €1.26 ($1.42). Lampante oil and refined oils folÂlow with a 33 perÂcent decrease, sitÂuÂatÂing them at €2.20 ($2.47) and €2.50 ($2.81), respecÂtively.
Virgin olive oil had one of the lowÂest price decreases, which fell by 30.8 perÂcent and is curÂrently priced at €2.37 ($2.67). Extra virÂgin oil prices decreased by 25 perÂcent, falling to €2.68 ($3.01) per liter.
