The 53rd meetÂing of the International Olive Council’s Advisory Committee was opened by the Egypt Agriculture Minister in Cairo, with disÂcusÂsions on the olive oil secÂtor in Georgia and a project to remove plasÂtics from the marÂket. The comÂmitÂtee reafÂfirmed the validÂity of the panel test for assessÂing virÂgin olive oils and plans to subÂmit a joint proÂposal at the next sesÂsion in November.
The Egypt Agriculture Minister and Chair of the International Olive Council, Ezz El Din Abu Steit, opened the 53th meetÂing of the IOC’s Advisory Committee in Cairo on April 24 in the presÂence of sevÂeral interÂnaÂtional observers. Georgian Vice Minister for Agriculture George Svanidze described the state of the olive oil secÂtor in his counÂtry.
A project for removÂing plasÂtics from the olive oil marÂket was launched by repÂreÂsenÂtaÂtives of the University of Jaén. Scientific speeches were given by the Heads of Units of the IOC’s Executive Secretariat, then the attenÂdees had news on the Observatory, the new world olive oil docÂuÂmenÂtaÂtion cenÂter.
The validÂity of the panel test for the organolepÂtic assessÂment of virÂgin olive oils was reafÂfirmed by the Advisory Committee, which stressed the need for addiÂtional time to strengthen it. A joint proÂposal is set to be subÂmitÂted at next November’s sesÂsion.
