With the support of Turkey’s Ministry of Industry, the olive oil producer Nar Gourmet is taking a new step in the olive oil sector with a project that will bring the factory to the fields. Local olives from Hatay, Mersin, Antalya, Manisa, Ayvalık could be processed within just two hours after harvest by the company’s new mobile olive oil production truck.
The project also has an international purpose. It is aimed to collect gene sources with the local olive varieties of Mardin, Hatay, Manisa, Mersin, Antalya, Ayvalık and to promote local tastes internationally.
Nar Gourmet is a leader in the natural products market, especially in jam, marmalade and olive oil, and its brands are distributed through more than 600 points throughout Turkey, the company reported, as well as exported to countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, China and Germany
Jam and marmalade from Nar Gourmet won the “Outstanding Product Award” from ITQI (International Taste and Quality Institute). Its olive oil won a Gold Award at the 2014 New York International Olive Oil Competition.
Samir Bayraktar, Nar Gourmet’s managing director said “The purpose of making the mobile olive oil processing unit is to carry the taste from the fields to our table without sacrificing the quality. With this project, high quality olive oil could be made in places with few olive trees where it isn’t financially suitable to build factories.”
Mobile production truck will support small manufacturers, and the regional tastes that have never been noticed until now will be available nationally and internationally,” Bayraktar added.
The new truck was built at a cost of 320,000 Turkish Liras ($144,251) and will travel 4,100 kilometers.
