Edirne, Turkey has been the site of the Kirkpinar olive oil wrestling tour­na­ment since 1924. The win­ner of the tour­na­ment is given the title ​“başpehli­van.” The 2017 başpehli­van was Ismail Balaban, a farmer’s son from the Akmay vil­lage of Elmali. One tough dude.
