Brief
OPG Garmica, a Croatian olive oil proÂducer, has been awarded a Gold at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition. The award was given for their extra virÂgin olive oil made from the Levantinka culÂtiÂvar, a variÂety endemic to Croatia.
Founded in 2016, OPG Garmica culÂtiÂvates olive trees in their famÂily grove on the island of Hvar. The grove preÂdomÂiÂnantly feaÂtures autochthoÂnous Croatian olive variÂeties, includÂing Levantinka and Oblica. These variÂeties are known for proÂducÂing oils with disÂtincÂtive charÂacÂterÂisÂtics, freshÂness, and fruitiÂness.
The olive groves on Hvar are small and mostly planted on karst, requirÂing speÂcial care and mainÂteÂnance. This meticÂuÂlous approach results in high-qualÂity oils, albeit in limÂited quanÂtiÂties.
The NYIOOC, also known as the World Olive Oil Competition, is a presÂtiÂgious event that recÂogÂnizes excelÂlence in olive oil proÂducÂtion globÂally. OPG Garmica’s recogÂniÂtion at this comÂpeÂtiÂtion highÂlights the qualÂity and uniqueÂness of Croatian olive oils.
The winÂning brands are preÂsented in the Official Guide and the Olive Oil Times World Ranking.
