Brief
Olive oil packÂagÂing usuÂally shows a ‘best by date’ but a ‘harÂvest date’ is a betÂter indiÂcaÂtion of its age. Why? Because a proÂducer can keep oil in a tank for years before he botÂtles it (and the best by date is 2 years after that). The harÂvest date tells you when the fruit was crushed. So look for a harÂvest date if you can find one and make sure it’s fresh — harÂvested no more than a year ago is ideal.
