Rio Bravo Ranch, located along the Kern River in the United States, has been recÂogÂnized at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition. The ranch, manÂaged by James Nickel, a fifth-genÂerÂaÂtion descenÂdant of Henry Miller, received two Gold Awards and one Silver Award for its olive oil entries.
The Rio Bravo Ranch Picual, which won a Gold Award, is noted for its medium body, smooth texÂture, and sweet, butÂtery taste, charÂacÂterÂisÂtics comÂmon in many Spanish olive oils. Another Gold Award was given to the Rio Bravo Ranch Coratina, described as havÂing a medium beginÂning with a big finÂish, feaÂturÂing fresh green olive notes and a pepÂpery, spicy kick with a hint of bitÂterÂness.
Additionally, the Miller’s Reserve Blend, an organic extra virÂgin olive oil, earned a Silver Award. This blend comÂbines Picual, Coratina, and Frantoio culÂtiÂvars to creÂate a smooth medium oil with a kick.
The Rio Bravo Ranch spans approxÂiÂmately 3,200 hectares and is known for its diverse agriÂculÂtural activÂiÂties, includÂing farmÂing citÂrus, almonds, cherÂries, and olives, as well as catÂtle grazÂing. The ranch’s recent achieveÂments at the comÂpeÂtiÂtion highÂlight its conÂtinÂued presÂence in the olive oil indusÂtry.
