Rio Bravo Ranch Wins Gold at NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition

Recent News

Rio Bravo Ranch, located along the Kern River in the United States, has been recognized at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition. The ranch, managed by James Nickel, a fifth-generation descendant of Henry Miller, received two Gold Awards and one Silver Award for its olive oil entries.

The Rio Bravo Ranch Picual, which won a Gold Award, is noted for its medium body, smooth texture, and sweet, buttery taste, characteristics common in many Spanish olive oils. Another Gold Award was given to the Rio Bravo Ranch Coratina, described as having a medium beginning with a big finish, featuring fresh green olive notes and a peppery, spicy kick with a hint of bitterness.

Additionally, the Miller’s Reserve Blend, an organic extra virgin olive oil, earned a Silver Award. This blend combines Picual, Coratina, and Frantoio cultivars to create a smooth medium oil with a kick.

The Rio Bravo Ranch spans approximately 3,200 hectares and is known for its diverse agricultural activities, including farming citrus, almonds, cherries, and olives, as well as cattle grazing. The ranch’s recent achievements at the competition highlight its continued presence in the olive oil industry.

The winning brands are presented in the Official Guide and the Olive Oil Times World Ranking.
