The International Olive Oil Council reported a sigÂnifÂiÂcant increase in global table olive proÂducÂtion for the 2019/20 crop year, with Egypt expected to surÂpass Spain as the top proÂducer with 690,000 tons comÂpared to Spain’s 500,000 tons. Overall, the global conÂsumpÂtion of table olives is proÂjected to rise by 2.1 perÂcent in 2019/20, accordÂing to the IOC.
The International Olive Oil Council (IOC) released its proÂviÂsional data for the global proÂducÂtion of table olives for the 2019/20 crop year, showÂing a 13.9 perÂcent increase to 2,925,500 tons comÂpared with 2,569,000 tons proÂduced in the 2018/19 seaÂson.
Egypt is expected to take the lead from Spain with a crop of 690,000 tons of olives comÂpared with 497,000 last year, while the Iberian powÂerÂhouse will fall to the secÂond posiÂtion with 500,000 tons — a 16 perÂcent drop from the 580,000 tons proÂduced the preÂviÂous seaÂson.
Other big proÂducÂers like Algeria and Morocco are expected to retain the levÂels of the preÂviÂous crop year, with proÂducÂtion reachÂing 300,000 tons and 130,000 tons respecÂtively.
A slight fall is preÂdicted for Turkey, with the estiÂmated crop of 414,000 tons comÂpared with 423,000 tons the preÂviÂous seaÂson.
Italy, on the other hand, is in for a subÂstanÂtial increase of 85 perÂcent, jumpÂing from 40,000 tons last year to 74,000 tons in the 2019/20 seaÂson, but still low in terms of volÂume comÂpared with its big comÂpetiÂtors.
Greece will likely have a rise of 24 perÂcent reachÂing a total of 207,000 tons, up from 167,000 tons preÂviÂously, while Argentina’s crop of table olives is estiÂmated to reach 100,000 tons, 25 perÂcent more than the 80,000 tons of the preÂviÂous crop year.
The global conÂsumpÂtion of table olives is expected to increase by 2.1 perÂcent in 2019/20, as preÂdicted by the IOC.
