The Smithsonian Institution will host a semÂiÂnar led by Curtis Cord on high-qualÂity extra virÂgin olive oils on February 3, expected to draw up to 150 attenÂdees as part of its Smithsonian Associates lineup of classes and lecÂtures. The sesÂsion will include a tastÂing and qualÂity assessÂment, a tour of award-winÂning oils from 27 counÂtries, a lunch pairÂing demonÂstraÂtion, and a disÂcusÂsion on the pasÂsion and deterÂmiÂnaÂtion of olive oil proÂducÂers, with tickÂets availÂable on the Smithsonian Associates webÂsite.
Washington’s Smithsonian Institution will host a semÂiÂnar, “Olive Oil: In Search of Liquid Gold” to explore high-qualÂity extra virÂgin olive oils on February 3, part of its Smithsonian Associates lineup of classes and lecÂtures.
Curtis Cord, the pubÂlisher of Olive Oil Times and presÂiÂdent of the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition will lead the all-day sesÂsion that is expected to draw up to 150 attenÂdees, accordÂing to Smithsonian Associates.
After a mornÂing sesÂsion on tastÂing and qualÂity assessÂment, Cord will lead the group through a guided tour of this year’s NYIOOC award-winÂning oils from 27 counÂtries to demonÂstrate the abunÂdant variÂety of tastes in olive oils from around the world.
The Smithsonian will preÂpare a lunch designed to illusÂtrate how pairÂing difÂferÂent olive variÂetals can enhance and eleÂvate foods to new heights.
Attendees will also learn about the peoÂple behind the critÂiÂcally acclaimed olive oils. “Above all, a great olive oil is a prodÂuct of a proÂducÂer’s pasÂsion and deterÂmiÂnaÂtion,” Cord said. “A disÂcusÂsion of high-qualÂity olive oil must always begin with an appreÂciÂaÂtion of its proÂducer and his or her farm.”
A mulÂtiÂmeÂdia preÂsenÂtaÂtion will bring attenÂdees into the groves and mills of olive oil proÂducÂers on 5 conÂtiÂnents.
Tickets to the semÂiÂnar are offered on the Smithsonian Associates webÂsite.
Smithsonian Associates — the largest museum-based eduÂcaÂtion proÂgram in the world — proÂduces eduÂcaÂtional and culÂtural proÂgramÂming that offers access to the Smithsonian’s world of knowlÂedge.
This will be the secÂond time the proÂgram has examÂined olive oil qualÂity. In 2014, Cord led a sold-out semÂiÂnar at the museum on olive oil appreÂciÂaÂtion titled “The World of Olive Oil.”
